Behind the Scenes

What Happens on
Your Wedding Day

A walk-through of what filming your wedding actually looks like. From getting ready to the last dance, here's what to expect from your videographer.

Before the Day

It Starts Weeks Earlier

Good wedding films don't start when we hit record. They start with the planning call a few weeks before your day. This is where we go through your timeline, talk about the parts of the day that matter most to you, flag anything we think could be tricky (lighting, spacing, timing), and get to know you a bit.

We'll also check in with your photographer and coordinator to make sure everyone's aligned. By the time the day arrives, we already know what's happening, when, and where. No surprises. That's how we stay calm and keep things easy for you.

Getting Ready

The First Few Hours

We typically arrive 2 to 3 hours before the ceremony. Getting ready is one of the most emotional parts of the day, and couples are often surprised by how much of it makes it into the final film. The nervous laugh. Your mum tearing up. Your partner reading your card.

You don't need to perform or acknowledge us at all. We'll capture the details (dress, shoes, rings, invitations) and the moments between people. If there's a first look planned, we'll set that up with your photographer so the timing works for both photo and film.

One tip: keep the getting-ready space tidy. A clear bench or table near a window is all we need to make your details look beautiful on film.

The Ceremony

Where It All Happens

The ceremony is the heart of your film. Your vows, the readings, the look on your partner's face when you walk in. This is what people cry at when they watch your wedding film years later.

We use dedicated audio recording equipment to make sure your vows sound clean and warm, not like they were picked up by a camera microphone from 10 metres away. Audio quality is one of the biggest differences between a professional wedding film and a budget one.

During the ceremony, you won't notice us. We position ourselves carefully, move quietly, and never block your guests' view. If you have a Feature Film package with two cinematographers, we'll capture both angles of the aisle so nothing is missed.

Portraits

The Bit People Worry About Most

Almost every couple tells us they're nervous about portrait time. Being on camera, being directed, feeling awkward. We get it. And we've figured this out after hundreds of weddings.

Our direction is gentle and natural. We'll suggest a walk, a pause, a glance. We'll crack a joke to get a real laugh. We'll give you something to do so you're not just standing there. Most of the best portrait footage happens when you've forgotten the camera is rolling, and that's exactly the point.

We work alongside your photographer during this time. We've done it hundreds of times with dozens of different photographers, so the flow is always smooth.

The Reception

Speeches, First Dance, and Everything In Between

Speeches are one of the most important parts of the final film. We mic up your speakers individually so the audio is clean, and we capture both the speaker and your reactions. If you've chosen a Short Film or Feature Film package, your full speeches are included as a separate edit.

The first dance, the cake cutting, the party. We stay for it all (within your coverage hours). These are the moments that round out the story and give the film its energy.

One thing to know: we don't need a vendor meal, but it's appreciated. We don't take breaks during key moments. If your venue offers a meal, great. If not, we'll sort ourselves out.

After the Day

What Happens Next

Your footage goes into the edit queue. If you've added a Teaser, that's delivered within 7 days. Your full film takes around 12 weeks, and we'll keep you updated throughout.

The biggest thing that can affect the timeline is music. We'll ask you about the vibe you're after and choose tracks that match your day. Once you approve the direction, we lock it in and build the edit around it. Here's a deeper look at how that process works.

When the first edit is ready, we'll send it through for your feedback. If anything needs adjusting, we'll take care of it. The final film is delivered via a private online gallery you can share with anyone.

★★★★★

"At no point did we ever feel like we were being posed too much or stolen from our guests. Their guidance felt natural and our poses felt organic. It was truly bliss."
